eIDAS certificates

What are eIDAS certificates?

eIDAS is a European regulation that oversees electronic Identification, Authentication and trust Services. To participate in the open banking ecosystem, banks and TPPs need to prove their identity using cryptographic operations based around eIDAS certificates. The two certificates important for open banking are the Qualified Website Certificates (QWACs) and Qualified Certificates for Seals (QCSEALs). Both can be used for authentication, confidentiality and integrity purposes. More specifically, the QWAC establishes the reliability of your connection to the other party, and the QCSEAL is used as a seal that provides end-to-end guarantee of the sender and integrity of an information package. eIDAS certificates can only be obtained from EU-approved QTSPs
