The European Payment Services Directives are a set of regulations that were created to facilitate an innovative and competitive cross-European payments environment. In the first Payment Services Directive (PSD), the Single Euro Payment Area (SEPA) was defined. The second Payment Services Directive (PSD2) mandates that banks must share –with customer consent –consumer banking information with registered and licensed TPPs for the purposes of Account Information Services or Payment Initiation Services. PSD2 allows more flexibility in Open API construction than the UK’s Open Banking regulation.
